Buenos dìas my friends
Cup'O'Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSoild at 12.1 with a beautiful start to the day, ah yes, the sunrise. It was a wet and wild ride yesterday across NorCal; Snow levels started pretty low, around 5k, rising mid-late afternoon to around 7k. As mentioned yesterday, this was a quick hitter system with a good wind shot to push through the region.
Today, and over the next two(2) days, it is dry and cold with a bit of wind as a high-pressure settle-in before we get another shot of #MotherNaturesNatural or what I like to call #MaNatural. It's not a big snow producer and a little warmer than the past few rounds; however, it's just base-building goodness as we jump into the main show from January through March...
Today: Cold to start, snow will be a mixed bag, firm to start the day, softening throughout the day. Depending on aspect and exposure, you'll still be able to find mid-winter shape lines; however, the rise in temps and moisture content packed the base down a bit, and that's why I say "Firm to start."
GotTIX:
Note to self: We are still in early-season shape or what I call low-tide, and if you are off-piste looking for that fresh line, remember if it is a lump, bump, dip, or rise, it is probably a snow-snake, rock tree, or stump!
Cali Pass Resort Snow totals:
Bear Valley: 24hr = 6"
72hr = 18"
Dodge Ridge: 24hr = 1"
72hr = 19"
China Peak: 24hr = 0"
72hr = 13"
In Socal - Our Mtn Ops teams at Mtn High are crushing it, overnight refresh, with Mountain High now open 7 days a week, so come sleigh the holidays. Night riding begins Friday, 12/20, from 5pm-10pm.
At Mtn High today: Both the Coyote and Road Runner chairlifts are available by accessing Cruiser and Sunnyside. Top-to-bottom terrain on Upper and Lower Chisolm opens Friday, and our teaching terrain opens Saturday, 12/21. The terrain is mainly intermediate to beginner, with a fun selection of terrain features on Cruiser. Look for more features and trails coming soon. The terrain is limited early season. Use caution, be aware of unmarked obstacles, and stay off closed trails and areas.
Weather ahead: Dry weather with mild, above-normal temperatures will dominate through Friday under high pressure. Northeasterly winds will persist, with breezy conditions early. Confidence is increasing that unsettled weather will return starting Saturday. Snow showers are likely over the weekend, and a stronger system will approach early next week. Snow levels will start high but may drop below passes by midweek.
Christmas Week Snow Potential (Dec 23rd-27th):
Early signals from the Euro and GFS models show increasing potential for snow to return to the region. While the main system body currently tracks North of I-80 and Donner Summit, the heart of the storm looks favorable for our Norcal Cali Pass Resorts. Exact snow levels, wind conditions, and timing will be refined as model consistency improves later this week.
Get out and get'ya some today, my friends
