Coops Corner Cali Pass: Snow Report & Forecast - Dec 26, 2024

Buenos dìas, my friends Cup'O'Joe in hand with the #StokeLevelSolid at 11.7 this morning. Our Mtns in Norcal are in Mid-winter shape, with the Mtn teams creating magic overnight, refreshing the terrain and parks, and learning terrain for your pleasure. Snow will be in mid-winter shape, carvable on-piste, with a few hidden turns off-piste. Caveat insert here: we are still a little shallow on base off-piste, so be aware and ski it with caution we've got a long season ahead with plenty of POWHunt'n dayz ahead. Cold to start the day, at the top of Bear Valley, it's 26º, wind chill 17º, with light South (174º) winds - 9/16mph. Bring your layers, so as the day progresses, you can either shed or add layers! Forecasts for the day: We will continue the Winter Weather Advisory here in Norcal for the next 36 hours as the last of three systems move ashore today and tonight. We can expect a mix of Snow and rain at our base elevations as this system looks to be a little warmer mid-stream. I’d expect snow levels to start around 5.5k, then flex upwards to 7k/8k, dropping back down and settling in the 6k range for the duration.

Bear Valley Summary: Active weather continues across Northern California today, with snow showers expected this morning and heavier snow overnight. Snow levels will rise to 7,000–8,000 feet by Friday afternoon. Gusty winds will accompany precipitation, creating travel impacts at higher elevations.

China Peak Summary: A winter storm approaches today, with increasing clouds and snow likely late this afternoon. Heavy snow is expected overnight into Friday morning, favoring elevations above 6,000 feet. Snow levels will remain at or above 6,000 feet throughout the event. Breezy winds will accompany the system.

Dodge Ridge Summary: Cloudy skies dominate today, with light rain and snow showers expected by mid-morning. Snow levels will remain between 5,000–6,000 feet today, rising to 7,000–8,000 feet by Friday. A stronger system will bring heavy snow tonight into Friday morning, creating travel impacts above 6,000 feet.

Mtn High Summary: Mostly sunny skies with breezy conditions today as a ridge of high pressure builds over the region. Winds will strengthen overnight and into Friday, particularly in higher elevations and passes. Temperatures will remain seasonably cool. NAM 3km - 6hr | 12hr | 24hr Precip (inches)

We have snow in-bound late today through Friday mid-day, setting up a weekend #refresh and reset. There's not a lot in the forecast; I'd forecast 5" to 10" over the next 48 hours. This will all depend on elevations and aspects for sure. Between Dodge, China, and Bear Valley, you'll have a great time. If you are on the Coast, Santa Cruz, or Monterey, China Peak is where ya'ought to be, Sac, Bay, South Bay, Dodge, or Bear Valley for sure. Skip the HWY50, I80, and SR88 junks shows and set course and speed for an easy drive time with more time on snow, less hassle, and yep, save a #%^# load of $$$... Just say'n :) Long-range models - ECMWF | GFS Models:
