#StokeLevelSoild, Beautiful day on-tap as I type, Potential for snow, Friday afternoon...

Updated: 23 hours ago

Buenos dìas my friends

Cup'O'Joe in hand, #StokeLevelSoild, as we kick off the second day of the year, a fine Thursday morning in 2025 it is! We have a snow forecast for NorCal late Friday afternoon and evening, with a 2" to 3" potential at Bear Valley and Dodge Ridge.

Today:

Bear Valley:  Widespread frost, mainly before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 46º. East wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Dodge Ridge: Patchy fog between 8am and 10am. Patchy frost before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 53º. East wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the morning.

China Peak: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46º. Wind chill values as low as 25 early. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Mountain High: Sunny, with a high near 51º. North wind around 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Snow conditions in Norcal: Firm to start out the day, for sure. Temps last night were in the mid-30ºs with clear skies. As the temps rise, the snow will soften quickly this morning; I'd kick off my day on-piste with a few solid carve-sessions, then as the snow softens up, start poking around the off-piste to find a little soft snow. Most north-facing terrain will have pockets of soft mid-winter snow, not easy to find, but if'yr hearty, you'll find it. Not up for the hunt, then keep on truck'n on-piste, the mountain teams at our resorts were out in force last night working on our parks, and on-piste terrain (aka - Groomers) - nothing like a few hot-lap on fresh cord in the morning...

The forecast ahead:

Models are trending wetter for Norcal; as I type, the NAM 3km models have the system slipping down the west slope mid-day tomorrow, impacting Bear Valley and Dodge Ridge. The models below (Composite and 6hr Precip) show a quick hit; I'd forecast 2" maybe 3" in a short, quick hit approximately. 2hrs, 3hrs. It's a solid refresh for the weekend ahead.

NAM 3km - 6hr | 12hr Precip Models

NAM 3km - Composite Reflectivity Models

NAM 3km - Winds + Streamlines Models

NAM 3km - Temperature Models

As you should, get out and get'cha some. There are only so many days in a season #NeverWasteADay
